Lisa M. Jurski
PT, MSPT, COMT, CMTPT
Certified FertilityCare Practitioner and physical therapist
Lisa Jurski discovered the Creighton Model and FertilityCare by happenstance in 2003. She and her husband went through the year-long learning process together and came out the other side with a new and better appreciation for fertility. Although she loved the method, she was disappointed that she hadn’t heard about it 10 years earlier! This inspired her to want to bring the Creighton Model System (CrMS) to a wider audience in Chicago. She felt very strongly that this information was critical for women to understand to be able to make well-informed decisions related to their overall reproductive health and fertility. She finally was able to go through the training to become a Certified FertilityCare Practitioner starting in 2009. 14 years later she has taught over 850 women and couples how to chart and use CrMS. Personally, she and her husband have used the method in all of its capacities: to postpone pregnancy for the first 7 years, to achieve pregnancy (living proof that 76% of couples of normal fertility achieve in the first cycle of “trying”), and to address the underlying causes of infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss.
What I do as a FertilityCare Practitioner:
I teach women how to chart their cycles. How to identify when they are potentially fertile and when they are absolutely infertile, so that they can use the method to either achieve or avoid pregnancy according to their intentions, but also to be able to identify signs of health and wellness in their charting. This strong emphasis on women’s health is what makes FertilityCare and the Creighton Model unique as a modern method of Fertility Awareness.
Creighton Model FertilityCare Teaching Program
The Creighton Model FertilityCare teaching program consists of an Introductory Session and then eight follow-up sessions over the course of a year. The group Introductory Sessions are free and anyone who is interested in learning what the system is about is invited to attend. Individual Introductory Sessions are available at an additional cost if the group schedule does not fit your needs.
FOLLOWING UP
The follow-up sessions are where the learning of the system really happens. Women and couples receive one-on-one, customized teaching and feedback based on their own chart and use of the system. Every woman is different. Every couple is different.
The standard schedule includes four follow-up sessions scheduled at roughly two-week intervals, a fifth follow-up session one month later, and then three additional follow-up sessions at three-month intervals.
After the first year, follow-ups are held on an as-needed basis, approximately every 6-12 months. Once a couple has learned to use the system, they can use it for life, through any reproductive changes they will experience.
Creighton Model System
The Creighton Model FertilityCare System relies upon the standardized observation and charting of biological markers that are essential to a woman's health and fertility.
The System is also the basis for the new women's health science, NaProTECHNOLOGY (natural procreative technology). Abnormalities unveiled by the woman's charting can be diagnosed and treated by a trained NaProTechnology Medical Consultant.

How is Fertility Awareness different from the “rhythm method”?
Modern “Fertility Awareness” Based Methods (FABMs) are based on educating women about the science of their fertility and normal reproductive physiology. Calendar rhythm method refers to estimating one’s fertility based on averages and generalizations regarding the regular, cyclic nature of a woman’s fertility.
FABMs emphasizes the importance of understanding one’s fertility so that this information can be used not only for family planning, but also for maintaining a woman’s reproductive health.
Modern Fertility Awareness Based Methods (of which the Creighton Model is one) can be a tremendous asset to a woman in order to have a better understanding of her overall health and wellness. A woman’s monthly cycle is a barometer of her health, and her chart is a tangible tracker of cyclic hormonal activity in her body. As hormones fluctuate during a given cycle, external physical signs can be observed and recorded to understand her unique pattern of hormonal changes.
If a woman experiences irregular cycles, painful cycles, abnormal bleeding, inability to conceive, or other gynecologic concerns, charting allows her to understand her body better. Charting may also provide key information to help trained clinicians diagnose health problems and assist in treating various conditions.
How effective is Creighton at avoiding pregnancy?
CrMS is as effective and, in some cases, more effective than other user-directed methods of artificial birth control, to help couples postpone or prevent pregnancy. In couples of normal fertility using the method to avoid pregnancy, the use effectiveness rate (typical use) is 96.8%. This in contrast to condoms (82%) and oral contraceptives (91%).
CrMS used in conjunction with NaPro Technology to treat the underlying cause of infertility is 2.8 times as effective as artificial reproductive technologies to help couples achieve pregnancy.
What is NaPro Technology?
Natural Procreative Technology (NaProTechnology), is an approach to women’s health care that utilizes the woman’s signs and symptoms of fertility to enable trained medical consultants to evaluate and treat various female biological conditions by both medical and surgical means. NaProTechnology does this by using biological information that a woman records in her Creighton Model chart. This charting system provides prospective information regarding the woman’s cycle, bleeding patterns, and quality/amount of cervical mucus. With this information, doctors specifically trained in NaPro Technology can provide medical and surgical treatments that cooperate completely with the reproductive system.

Do you offer long-distance learning?
Absolutely! Although it is preferred to meet in person, sometimes that just isn’t possible. Talk to me directly to discuss how we can arrange to meet via videochat and share charting updates etc electronically. There is an additional small fee for long-distance follow-up to cover the cost of mailing supplies and materials and also for the added time involved in coordinating remote learning.
